What is FTA?
How Free to Air Satellite work?
Free to air satellites (FTA) operates similar to DirectTV and Dish Network, but requires no subscription. The FTA satellite captures unencrypted satellite signals rather than encrypted signals and then transfers those signals to a digital output offering that can be viewed on televisions. The Dish When
The curved dish directs the signal to the LNB receptor, positioned over the center of the dish. The dish must have a clear path to the satellite without any obstructions like trees or buildings. The dish receives the signal at the LNB, strengthens it, and then passes it along to the receiver.
The Reciever The receiver decodes the signal and performs any necessary decompression--most high definition channels are uncompressed. While FTA signals don't require a specific receiver, they do require that your receiver be compatible with the station's signal format--the most popular is MPEG-2 for video compression.
Types Of Programs Offered
Public access signals, such as PBS, are offered by FTA. "Ethnic" programming is also a mainstay of FTA--ethnic channels are able to broadcast from anywhere in the world to customers anywhere else in the world while bypassing expensive charges. Furthermore, educational companies use FTA to broadcast their signals to local schools for teaching purposes. Rural area customers can also receive FTA signals without the need for expensive cabling.
FTA FAQ
Are HBO, ESPN, PPV or my local channels available through Free To Air?
These are not available with FTA satellites. Any scrambled or encrypted channels, such as almost all DirecTV, Dish Network, and Bell ExpressVu channels, cannot be viewed legally using a standard, legal FTA receiver.
Is FTA installation easy to set up??
Free-To-Air satellite equipment is not plug-and-play. You absolutely need to have knowledge about setting up this equipment. If you are new to FTA then we highly suggest you to contact an installer who knows.
Do you offer technical support or will you teach us how to set up the FTA System?
We are only a reseller/wholesaler of all the products we sell. We expect that our customers already have the knowledge to install, setup and use the equipment we sell. The scope of our technical support for our products is very limited to determining whether or not a product we sold may be defective. There are just too many variations of setup including types of dishes, LNB's, satellites, etc.
Note: Please do not call the sales department asking technical questions. They can only help you with questions regarding your order.
